Bali High

Bali High

I write these memories from the perspective of a tourist from the Philippines. Before going to Bali, I thought that other Bali Resort, Phuket or Boracay was like. No, it seems I was wrong. Bali is much more than a beach. Let me show you.

Light promotes art, a structure can not be isolated from its natural environment.

I remembered this paraphrase from a movie at the minute we arrived at our hotel, the Royal Bali Beach Club at Jimbaran. As we sat drinking our welcome drinks, my eyes were drawn to the straw roof of the alang-alang (Cogon). Three aircraft from the ground floor hall, the polished wooden frame and bamboo sticks were a geometric design, which glowed in the warm lights. Hindu carvings, intricate carvings on the walls and frangipani flowers in vases, Balinese masks, gargoyles and water lilies are all united with thatched alang-alang in a tropical Balinese atmosphere created. Despite my tiredness I felt was inspired by many artistic expression.

On our way to St. Francis Xavier Church in Kuta on the next day I saw in Bali last moment of the day. I found it strange that nearly all structures (except those with thatched roofs), the same terracotta tiles. I can almost feel the Balinese intentionally made a theme, watching united, what did the Parisians or the Israelites in Jerusalem. I think this gives the city its unique character. Did you know that Bali's longest road of art in the world?

passed on our way to Ubud, which is defined as the cultural and artistic center of Bali, the "Art Street" by various cities, specializing in various arts Tohpati (batik), Batubulan (stone carving), Mas (wood carving) Celuk (Silver & Gold), Ubud (paintings and galleries, art market), Sukawati (art). It is an artist Haven! Three days were not enough for us, but we were happy with our souvenirs, especially Windu Sari (Batubulan ), Body and Soul and Just Jeans Factory Outlet (Seminyak), and Sukawati market, with all discounts. Always in Bali to negotiate as much as 70% if you can not help but run and see if they give in.

I said that rice fields and rice terraces that surround the cities of art? The Balinese was originally built to surround their rice fields, water temple, and thanks to the inherited subak irrigation system of the Hindus, rice is planted year round. We can not forget the ducks quacking in the rice fields, however. Why were they on the same duck, fried in Indonesian spices and were landed on our plates! Yummy. Interestingly, the cost of the Indonesian Bebek (duck) is different from his cousin Peking duck. When you come to Bali, Ubud Bengil Bebik a visit for lunch or dinner, makes it worthwhile. The Balinese gardens, rice fields, traditional Balinese bamboo music, as exquisite as the duck and fried ice cream for dessert special at a reasonable price.

At first we were not so crazy to rush to the beach, because we were familiar with fine sand or coral beaches in the Philippines. But on our third night, we went to Jimbaran Beach for a seafood dinner and got hooked ever since. Who can resist grilled seafood dinner at night in the open air with the breaking waves near the sand beneath our feet, candles, twinkling lights in the distance and the stars shine in the sky? On our last evening in the restaurant Fortune, there was a Balinese wedding next door. We witnessed a traditional Balinese dance, modern belly dance, fire dance, and heard a few songs and English songs like Balinese autumn leaves. There was Balinese Hindu decorations between the tables and chairs, and the waiter, the wedding happened the day before the celebration, but for a few days old. A foreigner, and a Balinese got married, so maybe they had two different kinds of celebrations?

Speaking of beaches, it is a beach that is not found in a map of Bali. It's called Dreamland and owned by Tommy Suharto, the former chairman of the son. As the name suggests, Tommy has the best beach in this massive real estate project called Dreamland. Located between Jimbaran and Uluwatu, Dreamland Beach More picturesque is, the sand is finer than those near Jimbaran, Kuta or Nusa Dua (The latter from the Ngurah our driver.) It was in Dreamland, which I saw surfer to close. It was fascinating to watch, and they slide out of the waves, because they made it look so easy. Did they experience an athlete "high" about undulating waves? Maybe. In my experience as a runner, it was always exciting to run at top speed with the wind on my body.

Soon it was sunset. Watch the sunset in Kuta beach or Dreamland was a special occasion for our family as we in the city, who live too far from a beach. We were pleased that the beaches in Bali were free and not crowded with people. I can not explain why, but it felt like food for our soul to a sunset on the beach to catch.

For me, in southwestern Uluwatu Bali was the most dramatic cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean. The 70 meters high cliff scene was a bit like the twelve apostles in Melbourne, Australia, exposed in the Southern Ocean. After half hour walk from the track we were rewarded with a spectacular view! There were many monkeys around, but do not be fooled or frightened the monkeys steal your order. This is what the locals tell you, but I refused to leave when my sunglasses behind my eyes to the Sun tender. Well, they were already cheap sunglasses, but hey, at least I was not in our photo shoots frown and nothing happened to us.

Let's see: beaches (surfing, water sports and swimming), mountains, lakes, national parks, terraced rice fields and, on the longest road art, Polynesian Hindu architecture, Hindu temples, Buddhist pagodas, Balinese dance and theater, Balinese garden , Indonesian spices, designer boutiques, restaurants and hotels on the beach, and an international airport in an island found? Incredibly, yes. Nowadays, when I'm in the mood, remember to Bali, what should I do is pick Frangipani flowers from our garden, she stuck behind one ear, a traditional Balinese bamboo music in my CD player, reading a book or Bali Try a recipe from a cookbook Balinese and voila, it's Bali again. I think I Bali high fever.
